August 1st was Miguel's surprise birthday party, and it was great! We had amazing food, drinks, and games. I'll have to add pictures later, as soon as I get them. The look on his face when he walked through the gate, I'll never forget it!

Today is Miguel's 23rd birthday, and he still looks every bit of 22! I love this man so much and I want to make everything perfect for his birthday! My heart is filled with joy at the idea of making him smile, laugh, love on his birthday. I would travel to the end of the earth for this man. Happy birthday baby, it's going to be a long fun one!

To be completely honest, Miguel and I weren’t doing so well a little while ago. There was fighting, crying, and general aggravation all of the time. Of course, we were able to eventually talk through things and figure out what needed to be done, but it wasn’t always so clear. The arguments were about this and that, but they really boiled down to two simple facts:

1. I needed to realize some facts about myself, and accept them instead of taking them out on Miguel.

2. He needed to learn to work with me, not against, and share with me some of the things that were stressing him.

See, we both needed to work on our patience and understanding because in all reality the arguments were coming from within and not from the actual argument. So how did we finally come out understanding each other a little better? Heck if I know, but thank God we did! I guess sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you realize the truth of situations and not just what you keep telling yourself or want yourself to believe. I can’t really say what it was for Miguel, but for me I just woke up from my world and realized how much this man loves me and how much I want him to always love me. We had the chance to in a sense, fall in love with each other all over again, and boy did we!

All of this brought me to some enlightenment that I wanted to share. True, real life love is so new to me, and we are constantly learning new things about it. So what I learned this time is that the saying “It won’t always be perfect” is so spot on. What’s more, I don’t think that I want it to always be perfect because then I wouldn’t appreciate the great times as much as I do now. Love is absolutely not about being perfect; in fact I think it’s the complete opposite. It’s about mistakes and making them right, it’s about forgiveness and the chance to realize that you can forgive, it’s about laughter and crying, and it’s about aggravation and compromise and sacrifice, and most of all it’s about absolute lust, passion, and wet kisses. It’s messy and fun and I wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. I realized that maybe I should sacrifice some of my wants for the greater good, after all the pay off is amazing. It doesn’t mean that I loose my voice, but more like I just listen before I voice my opinion. How has stopping to listen to each other changed things? Well, how has it not? We talk about what’s going on, we talk about the important issues with out emotion. We talk and talk and talk, which is an important thing for a woman. We love, and love, and love, which is important for both of us. I can’t get enough of this man, and he can’t get enough of me. What’s more, all of this talking helps me to feel right, and to see things more clearly. Even though he hates me to say it, Miguel has really helped me to come a long way emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. So I look forward to growing with each other individually and together for a long, long, long time.

We decided at the last minute to go downtown to watch the Freedom over Texas fireworks show. It was amazing! They had some really unique fireworks including Saturn's, hearts, and some other shapes. There were bright colors, and some of them even looked like they would hit us (even though we were very far away)! We were actually supposed to go down there earlier for the entire event, but we decided to be lazy instead. While sitting here watching the concert on television I got this ting if regret for not going. So Miguel decided right then and there that we would high tail it down to see it! Isn't he such a wonderful man! I was going to add video of the fireworks, after all who doesn't like a fireworks show, but it's not working with me. I'll try to get it to work later!

Were coming up on our 1 year anniversary very soon! It actually went by like a blur, so I'm looking forward to many, many more anniversary's. We want to do something big, something amazing to celebrate it. We thought about going on a horse drawn carriage ride downtown and then going to see a play (which I've never been to one before). The only problem is that there are no plays on that day =( Miguel thinks that we should go later to a show and celebrate it then, but I want to celebrate it on the day. My idea was to go skydiving, but Miguel just won't have it. So what do you think? Were looking for suggestions for our anniversary!

Date nights!

Sometimes movie nights are my favorite! I have to admit, I am one of those people that get so tied up in sitcoms, and I could watch movies all day long. So going out with my sweetheart and sharing a movie together (and personal commentary) is a blast for me. The movie we watched was The Hangover, and it was pretty funny but I wouldn't suggest children watching it. Sometimes movies have an impact on me because I can see part of myself in the characters that I either like or don't like. So in the movie the "Dr's" girlfriend is a complete b****! While on the other hand the woman getting married was so understanding and laid back, and I realized that I want to be more like that! I heard on the radio about a couple, I believe the longest marriage in the United States, that has been married for 80 years! Wow, so how did they keep things so great for so long? When the woman commented she said something close to " We still cuddle, we don't fight, a good marriage take a lot of understanding and forgiveness, you should always laugh together and talk together, and don't forget to have a little bit of exercise." It really touched me, what she said, and I'm probably not doing it any justice. It made me stop and think that even though you have that good connection, and I mean that really great once-in-a-lifetime love connection, you still have to put some work into it to keep it great. When the man responded to the question of how they were able to keep things great for so long he simply responded "she never gets mad at me." So I'm going to try this, God be with me. I'm going to try to go with out getting mad at Miguel for things, and I believe I can do it if I remind myself of the bigger picture. We'll see!

The facts of life

My friends are getting married and having children and while I am so very happy for them I also get a ting of what's got to be jealousy. When I look on Facebook or Myspace and surf people's profiles I often come across classmates with diamond rings and babies on their hips, and even though I am so glad that I am able to go out and do whatever with my life I am still a little bit sad. I can see Miguel and me there, and I can see it being wonderful. I think that sometimes I get to wanting us to be there so bad, that I forget to stop and enjoy the "us" that we have now. This is a great "us". Here are a few of the things that make us so great:

Personal jokes- they are the best, we can just go on and on joking about whatever. It can be the funniest thing to us and no one else would understand.
Cuddle time (of course)
We get along living together so great and with such ease while some couples can take a long time to get in sync with each other in that way.
I love his friends; they are the type of people I would pick to be friends with myself.
We might not finish each other's sentences, but only because we beat each other to the sentence. There are so many times that I go to say something and he spits it out before I can.
We both love being active and doing different things. Hiking, biking, and camping with Miguel has become some of my most favorite times!
He always pushes me in a way that I need, and I love him more and more for it every time.
I never stop wanting to make him happy, to surprise him or make him laugh. I'll act in the stupidest ways and say the stupidest things because I know it will make him laugh.

So here's to stopping to smell the roses, they are gorgeous and pleasantly fragrant roses that I could smell for a long time!

Hanging out with nature

So here we are again! It's been a while since my last post, so I am posting another update into the lives of the happy couple. Last weekend we went with friends to the Frio, in Garner State Park, and let me tell you that it was AMAZING! The water was cold and nature was in full swing. We camped out, we floated, and we hiked. I so wished that I had remembered my camera, but unfortunately it sat the whole weekend on the counter at home. Luckily a friend was able to snap a few pics of us....

Higher Education

So now were going to go through something completely new for us, we'll both be in school. I'm nervous and excited at the same time. I don't know what to expect for me as well as for us, so I'm pretty scared. I'll be going to the University of Houston in a few days and this will be a huge change from the little community college that I was going to. For one it's a lot bigger. I mean I can actually get really lost just trying to find my next class! It also means that I'm getting closer to my goal, which can be kinda scary. Then I'm also worried about us, I mean he'll be at school and studying all of the time. I will be at school and studying all of the time, and now we don't work together so when will we find time to be us? I know I'm probably just over worrying but that is what I do best.

Growing up, my childhood lacked those special family events where everyone got together and enjoyed food, drink, and each others company. That's why when Miguel and I decided to host our very own Christmas Eve dinner for both of our family's I was in heaven! In my house, two family's combined. There was joy and laughter and great food. The dinner turned out great, Miguel's turkey was falling off the bone. The rest of the food was amazing too and for the most part I was in shock that I had actually cooked it! Then we opened presents and everyone had a blast, I most of all for getting to watch the enjoyment in everyone's faces while they opened their gifts. Both my parents and his family want us to do this every year now. Our very own tradition!!

Our first Christmas

This will be the first Christmas Miguel and I get to spend together, but I know it won't be the last. Here is a few pictures of our first Christmas tree. It's very special because it's the first real tree that either Miguel or I have ever had. Hopefully it will last thru Christmas, I keep forgetting to water it. Now we just need to get some presents under it!!

Thanksgiving

We went back to Alabama for Thanksgiving and spent it with a lot of my family that I havn't seen in a very long time. It was such a scary thing for me, I was nervous and anxious happy and sad all at the same time, and I know I wouldn't have wanted anyone else standing by my side but Miguel. He got along with everyone great, and once again I think they like him even more then me =).

Last weekend we took Miguel's youngest sister to lunch and the movies (the new James Bond movie I almost fell asleep in the beginning). The whole family bonding thing was great for me and I think I enjoyed it more then she did. =) I also showed off my oldies song knowledge and horrible singing/car dancing abilities that I'm sure will have the poor girl afraid to go out with us ever again... But it was a blast!

To be mad, or to be romantic?

Miguel has been complaining for a while about his neck and shoulders hurting, and it seems like everyday after work he is in pain. In the past two days it has been the worst, or from my opinion it has because he's been saying more about it. So we get off of work today and I'm in a great mood after all I'm free for the next fifteen hours. Miguel isn't though, he's in pain and to be frank he seems a little on the grumpy side. I know it was wrong of me, but this seriously aggravated me. I wanted to have a nice night and it didn't look like I would get that. So after walking the dogs I decided to go to the store in part because I needed to go and also because I felt a little me time would put things in perspective. Well it did and when I was walking around the store waiting for the pharmacy to fill my order (by the way, I don't understand why it takes a whole 20minutes to take a birth control packet which is pre counted and packaged out and stick a label on it) I stumbled upon the great isle of bath salts and face masks. While perusing through all of the girly stuff I found a bath ball that was supposed to "relax muscles" and instantly an idea popped into my head. "Why get aggravated when I can just try to change his mood?" So I got the bath ball and went along with my shopping. Now sorry to disappoint you, but this blog isn't about the actual romantic night but more about what it meant to me. A bottle of wine, dozens of candles and this little bath ball changed the whole night around for us. And I realized that it worked so well because I wasn't thinking about my feelings and how hurt I was that he wasn't in as chipper of a mood as I was, but instead I was thinking about him and how to make him feel better. While I was at the store I started planning in my mind, and it was running 90 to nothing about all of the things I wanted to do to make it great for him (I had even planned down to the dog bones that would ensure the ever playful puppy's quietness for at least 15minutes). After it had all been worked out, I realized that I too was rewarded with the pleasant, relaxing evening that I had wanted because I thought of him first. So my lesson from all of this: Be thoughtful and considerate of others and often you will get what you need in return. Or better yet, give 100% and expect 0 and both of you should have everything you need (I finally understand how that works and what it means)

Ok Jess, you have been bugging me to post something so here's my explanation as to why I haven't. Work has blocked my computer from anything Google =( I know, that's just horrible, but I have found time to write a little something

A whole lot has happened since last post, but first let me say that I love this man so much! It still amazes me how I think there’s no possible way to love him more and then he does something to make me love him so much. Ok, so lets see what all has happened….

Hurricane Ike - This was an interesting time for Miguel and I. When we were planning and deciding if it was going to be bad and where we needed to go we made a lot of small changes to our relationship. The most important one was when I just gave in to us. What I mean by this is that it’s hard for me to trust someone’s opinion over my parents. They led me through life for many years, and did a pretty good job, so in turn I trust and value their opinion above all others. What I was faced with when Ike was threatening us is should I go with my parent’s instructions or Miguel’s. I finally came to the conclusion that I should trust Miguel’s opinion, since I plan on spending the rest of my life with him. So I asked him, “What should we do?”. The look on his face was amazing; it was this smile, grin that told me that he was relieved that I asked what should WE do. Not only did I ask for his opinion but I also did it in a way that meant we were a team; we could make these tough decisions. I believe this to be an important step in our relationship.

Charlie Brown -
Last Sunday Miguel and I were getting ready to go to check out a new church. We woke up early and decided to go to the bread store for breakfast. On the way home we saw this little bitty dog running down Clay road and I freaked. So Miguel had to get out and get him away from the road (we do this every time we see a dog near or on a busy road). I actually was able to catch and hold on to him by a flea collar that someone had together on him. When Miguel walked up the dog freaked and pulled until he got away. By now he was on a smaller road and I told Miguel "come on let's go, he's safe now" but Miguel wouldn't have it he said he wanted the dog. So we followed him and got him by giving him some of my breakfast. The dog was dirty, full of fleas, and malnourished, but he was still the cutest dog ever. So we take the dog home and gave him a strong flea bath. Then we took him to the vet and got all of his shots, and now he's apart of our family. You can see how grateful and happy this little dog is, and Miguel loves him. Ringo is also pretty fond of him, right now they are both so tired from playing all day that one is passed out in my lap and the other on the couch. Here is a picture of the adorable Charlie Brown.

Seperation Anxiety

Miguel and I are experiencing something new, seperation. It sucks!! We have been inseperable for 2 or 3 months. Since I've started going to school, though, two nights out of the week we spend about an hour after working making dinner, then I go to school and by the time I get home it's late. Then the rest of the week I'm doing homework. It has been a problem for us to feel like were spending enough time together when our time has been cut in half.

A few things I love about us

I noticed today how much we are growing together as a couple.

I think all couples have certain obstacle's they have to overcome, sadly some relationships never get to overcome them, but I see us pushing through all of our problems effortlessly. Of course we have had some dissagreements, I mean he is very stubborn and I guess I am a little too =)(ok maybe a lot), but it never seems to bring us down. To me, your ability to handle a disagreement together makes or breaks your relationship. I know we have not been together for a long time, but I think this is something that you find out early on and I'm so glad were passing!

Something else that I've noticed is that we actually have goals together. I'm not the kind of person that can go thru life with no goals. I need to know that there's better out there for me, that I have a purpose. I have goals for everything from my career, to marriage, to children, and even into old age. That is what gets me out of bed each morning. I have to date someone that is equally goal oriented, or atleast wants more for themselves besides working at a low end company for the rest of their life (sorry to all Mc D's managers). So when we were able to make significant goals together (besides going to the movies friday night) it just made me realize, I can see myself with this man for a long time. I feel like we can equally lean on each other, turn to each other in times of need, and get each other through thick and thin to get what we want together.

It is amazing to realize how much can happen in such little time and even more incredible to know that it happens without expecting it. I can't say it enough but I would have never imagined experiencing what I have in the past few months. Since this page is dedicated to sharing with everyone how our relationship has grown from a simple friendship to a strong bond with the potential for a much greater understanding, let me begin:

Theresa and I met when she started working at the same company I do. I know what you're thinking, you're not suppose get involved at work but in our case it has proved to be the complete opposite. Over time we became friends, slowly confiding each others life onto the other without ever really knowing who we were outside of the work place. But it was when we were in our darkest moments that we saw the light in the other. I feel that we both given so much without being able to fathom how or why.

This is only the beginning of a long list of postings about us even though it may take a while between updates. Theresa keeps asking why I have not posted and I keep telling her that it's not easy to explain the sentiment I feel for her in a way that everyone will understand when I can't fully grasp it either. But like she has said before, one of the greatest satisfactions of all of this is that it just feels right...

We got the idea to make a blog about our relationship from a friend who used a blog to tell people about her wedding and all events leading up to it. It was interesting, so we decided why not write a blog about the beginnings of a relationship as it grows into something more. This is the first picture we'll share of us!
